Writing Needs Mud-Making Before it is Good

I know many people who originally went to college and university to study medicine or engineering and most of them went for business studies to be an entrepreneur. However, I have met many people who migrated into professional and freelance writing. We can say it was their calling but did they know it when they were studying medicine or engineering? Writing for a writer can be a passion or a profession but there is something about these freelance writers with which I do not agree.

I am not sure if writing is in the making or in the bones of a person. May be it is true for some but I can see a majority of people just jumping into this field of freelance writing because they think it is one of those easy jobs they can get when everything else failed. Many writers who joined my freelance writing network were those who were looking for easy money and when it dawned on them that writing is not easy, as they thought, they backed off.

writer1 Over the years I have met all kinds of individuals from diverse backgrounds and regions. When it comes to freelance writers it seems either they all belong to same group or lived on another  planet before reaching Earth. They do not want to learn anything. Sadly but true, no one wishes to work with someone who hardly wants to learn anything from anybody.

Like everything else a mentor is important in freelancing business. If your mentor is your boss then what else do you want or need? Your mentor may force you to rewrite your write up more than twenty times but it is not a punishment, but supposed to make you a better writer.writer4

No one is perfect and nothing that you wrote first time is going to be a masterpiece. It will take some time to understand the art of  writing and it will take some articles and criticism to learn what you are supposed to know to write a good informative content for your client.

One thing that a mentor of mine once told me: ‘ Write and lots of it. Your first draft will always be mud, but that’s okay. From mud/crap, you can fashion something much better.’writer5
